Retail stores: sales history, service and AI buyers

Shops build up years of custom orders, delivery bookings, returns and warranty claims, each with emails and call notes attached. Certain AI buyers want that, but most single stores are too small to qualify.

01

What a buyer wants from a store

Custom orders, delivery bookings, buying from suppliers, and customer service (returns, items arriving damaged, warranty claims) with notes on each. A furniture or appliance store has far more of this than a convenience store, because each sale involves a conversation.

Sales figures show results. Buyers are after the conversations that explain how staff reached them.

02

Is the store big enough?

Buyers typically set a floor of 20 to 30 employees, and a few only count office staff, which can leave shop-floor workers out. A small chain run from a head office fits better than a lone store. Polyshares names retail and hospitality among its industries, and Mercor names retail and e-commerce (order records, inventory logs and listings).

03

What it could pay

Nobody quotes a figure specific to retail. For businesses still trading, buyers advertise roughly $100K to $2M (self-reported). A store's spot in that range depends on staff numbers, years of records and how much gets written down.

04

Local customers are easy to recognise

Local customers are easy to spot. Even without a name, an email about a sofa dropped off on a certain street could identify a household. Review a cleaned sample before anything is released, and leave out anything you are unsure about.

05

How much of your time it takes

Less than most owners expect. By the buyers' own estimates the owner's part is roughly 1 to 3 hours: a scoping call, deciding what is in and out, and approving the export. The buyer can usually work with your IT person or provider on the export itself.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is my company big enough?

Buyers typically set a floor of 20 to 30 employees and want three-plus years of records. A handful have no minimum, and a few only count staff in US offices.

Do sales floor staff count?

Some buyers count office staff only. Ask each buyer how it counts.

Is POS data worth anything on its own?

Less than the conversations around sales. Buyers want records that show decisions.
