Mercor review: what sellers actually get

Mercor ranks among the biggest AI data firms, and it buys company archives itself. It publishes four useful things: no fees for sellers, a wire typically 2 to 4 weeks after signing, a SOC 2 Type II attestation, and price ranges for 24 types of company, from $20K to $1.5M.

Raise one topic before anything else: Mercor confirmed a 2026 cyberattack, and several class actions came after it.

02

Who Mercor buys from

Mercor connects to more than a hundred workplace tools and names eight broad industries. Its referral portal goes further, with 24 listings that each set a size band and track record. A law firm qualifies from 5 attorneys and staff with 5+ years of closed matters. A construction company needs 50+ employees and completed projects with full closeout. A call center needs 50+ agents.

It also watches for companies in transition. When HubSpot bought Warmly, Mercor reached out about Warmly's archives. In the Spirit Airlines sale it offered $7.5M and finished as the backup bidder. If you are being acquired or winding down, expect Mercor to show interest.

03

What Mercor pays

Mercor's referral listings now say what a company earns in each category. Some examples: accounting and tax firms $25K to $865K, construction companies $115K to $1M, manufacturers $100K to $1.5M, software companies $50K to $500K. These are Mercor's own ranges and depend on how complete and large your records are.

Its data page says pay is based on data volume, depth and the number of tools you connect, and that connecting more tools generally raises the payout. Payment is a wire on delivery of the anonymized dataset, which Mercor says typically lands 2 to 4 weeks after signing.

04

The contract terms

Mercor's seller contract is not public, so you will only see the license terms once you are in a deal. Its listing pages say Mercor scopes the data, signs an NDA and runs the export itself. Ask early whether the license is exclusive, how long it lasts, whether it can be sublicensed, and what happens to the data after delivery.

About the breach: Mercor linked it to the compromised open-source LiteLLM project. Its June 2026 update says a very limited subset of experts had sensitive data affected and customer impact was very limited, and lists the security changes since. Ask how seller data is stored now, who can reach it before de-identification, and request the SOC 2 report along with the dates it covers.

05

Mercor's referral program

Mercor's referral portal advertises up to $100,000 per company. Its 24 current listings range from $25,000 to $85,000 each, including a $10,000 listing bonus, with the full amount for companies of 30+ employees. The bonus is confirmed when the company signs and paid through Stripe after its first delivery. Mercor says it has paid referrers $2M+ in 2026.

06

What Mercor offers

Mercor is best known for hiring professionals as contractors to train and test AI models for the big labs. It now sells three things to companies: human data and benchmarks for AI labs, help building AI tools inside a company, and data monetization, where it licenses a company's records and pays for them. Investors valued it at $10B in October 2025.

07

Is Mercor a fit for your company?

Mercor suits a company that wants speed and no fees, uses mainstream tools Mercor already connects to, and fits one of its industry listings. Professional firms with complete closed files, manufacturers and builders with project records are its clearest targets.

Its ranges are wide, so run it alongside a buyer with its own published band, such as micro1 or Nyne.

08

Six checks before you send Mercor anything

We run the same checks on every buyer we rank. They take an afternoon and they protect the one thing you cannot take back: the copy of your records.

  • Find the legal entity. A registered company name, an address and at least one named person. A Facebook form alone is not enough.
  • Get the offer and the contract in writing before any export. A sample agreement tells you more than a sales call.
  • Ask who strips personal data, how, and when. You should approve the method and see a sample before anything leaves your systems.
  • Ask where the data goes. Which AI companies receive it, whether you are told, and whether it can be resold.
  • Ask how everyone is paid. By you, by the buyer, or out of your deal. Referral fees are normal; hidden ones are not.
  • Get a second quote. Terms from at least one other buyer is the fastest way to know if an offer is fair.
